Major Auction House ceases trading leaving clients very much out of pocket.
Has anybody used Cameo Auctioneers recently either to bu.y or sell?
This article gives a warning and tells you where to get help.
FUR.IOUS customers have demanded to know why Cameo Fine Art Auctioneers was allo.wed to proceed with two auctions just days before “suspending” trading.
Angry clients said they had placed goods, together worth tens of thousands of pounds, into the latest sales, and fear they will never be paid.
Meanwhile Cameo boss Jon King, of Mattock Way, Abingdon, has registered a new company name, sparking fears that he will allow the previous business to go into liquidation before starting afresh.
The new firm, Cameo Auctioneers Limited, was incorporated on April 12 and members of the King family are listed as directors.
The police have labelled the entire affair a civil matter while, in a new twist, spokeswoman for West Berkshire Council trading standards, Peta Stoddart-Crompton, advised the many dozens of alleged victims of unpaid money, bounced cheques or unlawful bank account withdrawals, to try contacting Cameo again to sort it out.
Bernard Gray, from Marlborough in Wiltshire, said: “A few days ago I gave Cameo £30,000 worth of goods to auction and now they’ve ‘suspended’ trading. We pay taxes to prevent this happening. The authorities seem to have shown almost complete inaction.”
Another client said he had placed £20,000 worth of goods with them and added: “Why haven’t trading standards acted sooner? Why were the auctions allo.wed to go ahead in the past few days? I have just learned of all the complaints and it doesn’t take an idiot to see what’s going on. I feel let down.”
One disgruntled customer said: “When I called trading standards before submitting items to this auction house, they told me that they couldn’t say anything because it would contravene Data Protection laws.
“What’s the point of having a trading standards office if we’re simply told, on feeling worried, that nothing can be disclosed…until it’s all too late, that is?”
West Berkshire Council’s trading standards departments has declined to comment officially, beyond saying that they were still investigating.
However, it has emerged that its officers took part in an operation at Cameo last Friday.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said: “At 10.30am on April 27, police attended the premises to support a number of trading standards officers, to help them gain acc.ess and to ensure there was no trouble.”
That same day, a notice appeared on the door at Cameo’s Midgham offices, which read: “Due to the adverse publicity and a police investigation into a former member of staff Cameo has suspended business until the end of May.”
In a personal reply to one correspondent, shown to Newburytoday.co.uk, senior trading standards officer Paul Fenner said: “In answer to your question about closing down Cameo, I would say that we do not have any statutory powers to take such an action. With regard to the police I am not aware of any investigation being carried out.”
However, he added that a trading standards investigation was underway and that other action could be imminent.
Meanwhile people continue to claim that, despite never having bid in a Cameo auction, they discovered ca.sh removed from their account which they have been unable to get back.
Cameo is also currently subject to 18 outstanding county court judgements involving sums totalling almost £20,000 and complaints continue to pour in.
Among the latest alleged victims was 31-year-old Paul Evans from Newbury, who said: “I gave them a valuable coin colle.ction to value and they sold it – supposedly for just £42 – without permission. One coin alone I knew to be worth £150. And for the silver I agreed to let them sell, I got a cheque from Mr King which has just bounced.”
In her statement on behalf of trading standards, Ms Stoddart-Crompton repeated that the matter was still being investigated and added: “Mr King has stated that he has suspended trading while he attempts to resolve some difficulties. Anyone who has submitted goods to, or purchased goods from, the auction should contact him via the following email address: camauctions@gmail.com
Anyone wishing to contact trading standards about Cameo Auctions should phone (01635) 519930 or email tsadvice@westberks.gov.uk
They’ve apparently now started up again with this name and logo. Of course we have deleted them from our database.

Water, Water Everywhere and still the drought ban stands.

With constant rainfall, in some places the wettest for over 100 years, the best place to be is indoors and looking at the auctions on offer. Bidding from the comfort of your home on-line or attending the auction in person. What could be a better way of staying warm and dry.
Apart from some interesting and bizarre auctions I am concentrating this week on liquidation and bankruptcy sales.
A lock of Elvis’ hair, Michael Jacksons mask worn on the eve of his death. The macabre item, which features traces of Jackson's make-up and a strand of his hair, is expected to fetch up to £93,750. Another weird auction where giant-sized underwear belonging to a record-breakingly tall man have been sold at auction for £550. Frederick Kempster, thought to be one of England's tallest men in the early 1900s, owned the 5ft (1.5m) long-johns.

Also some leisure vehicles including caravans.
Four quirky bikes attracted a lot of attention at auction rooms at the weekend.
The rare 1980s tandem bike sold for £190, the military bike believed to be from the Second World War, made £100, while the grocer’s bike sold for £85 and the police bike went for just £30.
Lots of exciting and profitable items on offer this week.
We have some 150,000 metres of various fabrics, 2 Leisure auctions, Jet skis, loads of vehicles, entertainment systems and beautiful stained glass windows and much more to tempt you.
Scroll down for more.
Good hunting!!

Elvis Hair

ELVIS Presley fans will be all shook up when they find out what is coming up for sale at a local auction room.
A lock of the King’s very own hair will go under the hammer at Town Auctions, in Signal Way, next month and is set to spark a lot of interest among fans.
The firm’s owner Craig Cook said the unusual lot could reach up to £1,000 or it could sell for as little as £50.
Back in 2009, a strand of Elvis’ hair raised £1,055 at auction at Henry Aldridge and Sons, in Devizes, despite it expecting to make just £250.
And in November 2002, another strand of his hair sold for $115,000 US dollars, about £70,000, in an internet auction.
The item, which will be auctioned off on May 19 at 10am, comes with a certificate of authenticity and is mounted in a frame alongside a photograph of Elvis.
Elvis’ barber Homer Gilleland was responsible to keeping the strands, and would apparently roll the hair up in a towel and save it.

SETTING UP A BUSINESS BUYING AND SELLING THROUGH AUCTIONS
Massive Savings

Auctioneering is one of the fastest growing businesses in the UK not least because of the huge television coverage including the Antiques Roadshow. Several of these programmes show people who have bits and pieces, sometimes just left in a cupboard, without any idea of their worth. Then the experts give their opinion and there are many pleasant surprises.
However, most of these programmes concentrate on the antiques and collectables section of auctioneering. The real money is to be made buying and selling from the auction houses who specialize in bankruptcy, disposals, liquidation and bulk buying.
These auction houses often hold several auctions per week usually with on line bidding. Buying through bankruptcy and in bulk mean these goods have to be shifted pretty quickly and so the bargains are there for the taking.
As the goods are such good value for money there is no need to have huge amounts of cash to begin a business. Great profit opportunities are there for the discerning and enterprising entrepreneur.
Not only can items be purchased singly but these type of auctions often include pallets of goods which can be great value.
Unfortunately due to the current climate bankruptcy and liquidation sales are increasing rapidly. However, one person’s loss can be anothers’ gain. The sales are usually without reserve so can be sold for very little. However, it is wise to try and view before buying. In my experience I have found that the on-line sales have excellent information including images so the risks are pretty low.
Other auctions which offer great profit making opportunities are Police seized, lost and found, airport lost luggage and more. With the police being allowed to sell off the assets of criminals together with cars, lost and found mean even greater choice.
Properties too can offer great bargains and auctions are where you find the quirky and unusual. However, to set up a property portfolio needs more cash so could be deferred until profits have been made.
I want you to think about using this great opportunity to start a business either full-time or as an income supplement. It depends on needs and time. Physically attending is great fun but time-consuming and unless there is determination bidding can carry people away spending much more than they should.
Storage is also a consideration. It’s no good buying a pallet of goods which take up storage space unless there is plenty.
Paying for the goods is easy too. It would be preferable when beginning if you want to buy and sell on line to open a PayPal account. However, you can purchase with credit and sell by cash depending on the medium to be used.
To make it easy for anyone to start their business we list every auction house in the UK together with all their details and the dates are uploaded daily.
Just look at some of the opportunities listed this week – there are some amazing profit opportunities to be found.
Let me know if anyone has been inspired to take me up on this business challenge.

Vinyl, Music & Film Memorabilia Auction
Saturday 19th May 2012 - starts 10.30am
For Beatles fans this auction includes unseen photos of the group.
The 20 black-and-white images show the band as they made their first film, A Hard Day's Night, in March 1964 at the Scala Theatre in London.
Taking pictures on the closed set was banned, but Pinewood Studios props manager Peter Allchorne went about taking snaps unhindered.

A menu card - signed by the four Beatles - from the band's trip aboard the BOAC Cunard, London to New York flight, will also go under the hammer at the sale.
A second unsigned menu card from their return flight features the misspelling "Beattles", making it a novelty expected to attract extra interest from bidders.
The photos taken in London, along with the original negatives, have been given an estimate of £2,000. The entire lot has an estimate of £10,000.
Viewing: Friday 18th May 11.00am - 6.00pm and Saturday 19th May 8.30am - 10.30am

Types of auction purchase
Leisure goods ready for Summer
You may think buying at auction is a pretty simple affair. You attend the auction, bid and if you win the goods are yours. This, of course is how it can be and a very exhilarating experience it is but there is much more to auction house buying these days.
In order to survive auction houses have had to embrace technology and offer other means of purchase for the modern buyer. Obviously this means the auction goods are able to be offered to an enormous number of people not only locally but worldwide.
As you are probably aware the Oriental market is huge at the moment and this needs to be dealt with using technology.
More and more auction houses are offering the customer greater choice in order to buy. If they don’t they will be left behind.
What then are the different options and what do they mean. Given below are the main ways to bid but they do vary from auction house to auction house so always check first.
Bidding on an item
There are a number of ways to bid on an item; you can either bid in the room, bid over the telephone, bid over the internet (when auction is online) or leave a commission bid.
In Person
If you wish to bid in person and attend a sale you will need to register first. Sales can get very busy so please allow yourself sufficient time before the sale to register as a bidder. At reception, you will be asked to fill in a registration form to give your name and address, contact numbers, show a valid credit/debit card or leave a cash deposit. This is normally one-off.
Once the form is completed you will receive a paddle – a card printed with your personal number for that sale.
During the sale, simply raise your paddle when you wish to bid and wait for the auctioneer to acknowledge you. Other bidders may wish to bid on the same lot, they will bid against you in the same way.
The auctioneer will continue taking bids from each bidder until all but one drops out. The last bidder is the successful buyer and the auctioneer indicates that the lot is sold by knocking down his hammer on the rostrum and announcing the buyer’s number and hammer price.
Absentee: ‘Commission Bid’
You may want to leave a ‘commission bid’ if you cannot attend the sale.
If there are two bids of equal value, preference is given to the bid that arrives first, so why not leave an amount that does not end with a zero or five e.g. £203 instead of £200).
Alternatively, if your bid price is flexible use a maximum of 3 + signs for each 10% increment (i.e. £300+ equals £330, and £300++ equals £360 approx. ).
A lot will not be sold for less than 50% of the highest 'commission bid'.
Use an Absentee bidding form which can normally be found on an auctioneers website., Fill in your details, lot number and description and indicate maximum bid amount, and fax it back to us, prior to the sale.
Online Commission Bid
To leave a Commission bid online, simply go to the catalogue and click on ‘Leave Bid’ against any lots that are of interest. First time users will need to register and leave full contact information and credit/debit card details. These details will be used for payment of any successful lots.
Telephone Bid
An auction clerk calls you and he relays your bids to the auctioneer during the bidding of your lot.
Telephone bids can be reserved for lots with a minimum estimate. Please supply a telephone number you wish to be contacted on and a member of staff will call you 5 lots prior to your lot.
Telephone lines are never 100% reliable, and telephone bidders could be asked to provide us with a cover bid, a pre-arranged bid amount that a member of staff may execute on behalf of a telephone bidder in the event he cannot be reached.
On-Line Bidding
Nearly all auction houses now offer this facility via their websites. This means you can bid 24/7 and from the comfort of your home or office. It is very easy to use but of course the goods cannot be touched or seen. You have to rely on description. However, the auctioneers mostly provide pictures and excellent information. Some will give guarantees but most will not.
The system is, of course, based on ebay lines but individually designed.
Identification
Remember too that you will probably need to provide identification, usually two forms. Generally this will be proof of identity and proof of current residential address by producing the following documents prior to signing the contract at the auction:
• a photographic ID, such as a current passport or new style UK driving licence
• a utility bill, bank or building society statement, or credit card bill issued within the previous 3 months, providing evidence of residency at the correspondence address.

You would have to be in a coma or stranded on a desert island not to know that 15th April is the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.
There are many activities in commemoration of this tragic and unique event. These include two beautiful museums in Belfast and Southampton.
The Titanic House has just opened in Belfast, Northern Ireland where Titanic first touched the water in 1912. The museum is designed by Eric R. Kuhne and it’s a very clever amalgamation of two distinctive themes: ships and icebergs. The texture of the white section is also a great success. It will be the world’s largest tourist attraction dedicated to the doomed liner Titanic.
As far as the interior is concerned, the central part of the building is a modernised copy of the original ship’s 1st Class staircase. Kuhne’s project has cost £100 million to build.

The other architectural delight is the SeaCity Museum in Southampton. It will officially open on April 10 – the same day the ship departed from Southampton 100 years ago.

There is also a cruise which set sail a couple of days ago and is following the route. People dressed up in appropriate clothes and many of the ships interiors and events were recreated.
In all the razzamatazz it needs to be remembered that this was a very tragic event and we need to remember the people who lost their lives and the bitter memories of those who survived.
Although the majority of the commemorative events will take place on April 15 (the day the ship sank), there are plenty of interesting events around that date. Check your local news and visit http://www.titanicheritagetrust.org.uk/2012eventscal.htm for a good list of Titanic events.

The Titanic is a ship that lives on in infamy and yet is surrounded by glamour and elegance. With the 100th anniversary approaching of the Titanic’s inaugural and fateful voyage, you can imagine the plethora of auctions and the amazing prices being fetched for even the silliest memorabilia.
Is this the iceberg that sunk the Titanic? Survivor's original photograph reveals the site where the doomed ship was last seen before it sank
An original photograph of the gigantic iceberg that sunk the Titantic has been discovered.
The black and white snapshot was taken by a passenger on the RMS Carpathia, the ship that belatedly came to the rescue of 705 survivors of the tragedy of April 16 1912.

Also visible in the image is the hull of the lifeboat that saved the lucky survivors from lifeboats adrift in the frozen Atlantic. The photograph clearly shows two giant icebergs on the frozen horizon and also visible is the hull of the lifeboat that saved the lucky survivors. It was taken by a passenger on board the RMS Carpathia
Here are a few examples – there are many more.

Keys, which were used by crewman Samuel Hemming, sold for £59,000 to an American collector

A letter auctioned off for £29,000 to a UK collector was written by the second in command of the Titanic, Chief Officer Henry Wilde.
Mr Wilde was deputy to Captain EJ Smith and died in the disaster.
In the letter to his family, written on Titanic letter-headed stationery, he praises the Titanic, describing her as a "wonderful ship the latest thing in shipbuilding".
A second letter, which sold for £39,000, was written by James Arthur Paignton, the captain's steward.
Letters and other items belonging to John Snyder were bought by an unknown private collector for $83,500. Mr Snyder was returning from a honeymoon in Europe and survived with his bride Nelle
Titanic band leader letter has $200,000 estimate ahead of auction
The bravery of the Titanic band is expected to boost the asking price of this historic letter home
They’re even selling the deckchairs! Everyone’s cashing in on 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking
A deckchair that graced the decks of the Titanic is expected to fetch between £62,000 to £125,000 when it goes on sale.
The chair - one of seven known to exist, will be auctioned along with other lots from the ill-fated ship in the approach to the 100th Anniversary of the sinking ship.
Other memorabilia available includes a letter from the ship's British orchestra leader Wallace Hartley, a rare pay slip from a crewman for his six days of service and a gold locket.
While the great liner slowly slipped beneath the waves in the dark hours of April 15, 1912, Hartley reportedly led his fellow musicians in what would become the last melodies many of the 1,517 casualties would hear and in so doing became one of the most famous heroes of that terrible tragedy.
Hartley’s body was recovered several weeks later and more than 1,000 people attended his funeral with a further 40,000 lining the cortege route. His note is currently valued at £3,000.
A beautifully detailed silk Kimono worn by the UK fashion icon Lady Duff-Gordon as she was lowered to safety in a lifeboat that has remained intact over the last century.
A gold locket recovered from the body of George Dunton Widener’s valet, Edward Herbert Keeping, within weeks of the tragedy, had until recently been on display at a Swedish museum for a number of years.

The historic items are will be sold online courtesy of auction house RR auctions between April 19-26.
Ever since that fateful day in April 1912 when the RMS Titanic hit an iceberg in the North Atlantic, the story of the ship’s demise and the fate that befell its 2224 passengers has intrigued the world.
Despite an almost constant stream of discoveries over the decades, either from the wreck itself or out of collections amassed by Titanicophiles, two auction houses have still managed to assemble interesting catalogues of Titanic or White Star Line memorabilia.
Bonhams’ ‘R.M.S. Titanic: 100 Years of Fact & Fiction’ auction will be held in New York on Sunday, 15 April. See www.bonhams.com.

Results from £1 house Auction.
Gandhi Artifacts - some rather strange.
DO YOU REMEMBER A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I TOLD YOU ABOUT A HOUSE WITH A STARTING PRICE OF A £1!! WELL THE AUCTION HAS TAKEN PLACE AND THIS IS THE RESULT SHOWING THE BARGAINS TO BE HAD WITH AN ADVENTUROUS SPIRIT.

Britain’s cheapest house? Two-bed property goes for 8,250 times the asking price (well, bidding did start at £1!)
A house thought to be the cheapest in Britain has sold for just £8,250.
The two-bedroom terraced property in County Durham has sold at auction for less than the price of a garage in London. But the boarded-up house in the village of Ferryhill is in need of a lot of work.
Bidding began at the princely sum of £1 for the two-bed property, which is in the village of Ferryhill Station, County Durham.
Its new owner faces a hefty refurbishment bill. All of the windows are boarded up and vandals have spray painted graffiti on walls.
And inside is not much better: one neighbour described the interior as a 'shell'.
Then there's the noise. A previous owner complained about the way ornaments on their mantelpiece rattled every night due to train tracks 100 yards away.
Online bidding reached £501 before it was decided the house should be auctioned in a live sale, which took place at the Hardwick Hall Hotel, Sedgefield.
The house has been empty for around a decade and had been expected to sell for between £6,000 and £12,000.
The vendor is very happy with the sale. The house was a bargain, but it does need a lot of work.
With a very busy auction the property attracted a lot of bids with first time buyers among the bidders.
Being so cheap, it had had quite a lot of publicity and that helped draw the crowds.
For someone with the time and wherewithal it could be turned around and again be a great starter or family home. The house has a potential value of £30,000.
The winning bidder, who did not want to be identified, said he had bought the property on behalf of a young family who want to live in the area.
Do you know that our huge database of auction houses includes many agricultural sales? It may be of interest to know that Alpacas are becoming very sought after and there are now several prestigious auctions. Scroll down for an upcoming sale of these delightful creatures.
This week there are some fantastic sales some of which offer more unusual items. Due to redevelopment at former BAe site there is on offer goods such as:
Catering Equipment
Fire Engines & related
Vehicles - including Airport Support
Ground Support Equipment
Factory Plant
As people or airlines become more careless there are real opportunities to purchase unclaimed lost and found items. Several auction houses offer these and they are quite exciting as you never know what you will find. The luggage is usually sold intact and could contain worthwhile goods or just dirty washing. Cases normally sell for just a fiver.
Don’t forget on line bidding is available in most auction houses so if you are unable to travel, bid from the comfort of home but remember Caveat Emptor (BUYER BEWARE) as there are no guarantees.
Happy bargain hunting

Gandhi's glasses among incredible haul of belongings from Indian peace campaigner set to fetch £80,000
DATE: 17TH APRIL
LOCATION: LUDLOW
The soil upon which Indian hero Mohandas Gandhi fell when he was assassinated is part of an incredible archive of material from the holy man that is to be sold.
A pair of his distinctive round-lensed spectacles that he bought in the UK when he was studying in the 1890s are also included, along with his personal prayer book.
The Father of the Indian Nation, known as Mahatma - an honorary title meaning Great Soul, was shot at point-blank range in 1948 and moments later a bystander, PP Nambiar, collected the dirt and some blades of grass.
He placed them inside a container where they have remained ever since and now it is a much-prized item of curiosity, wonder and even worship.
Also in the sale is a series of letters from Gandhi that spell out his philosophy.
They are all to go for auction along with numerous other personal items where they are expected to fetch up to £80,000.

'Wildest Dream' land up for auction
Nature lovers longing to own a special piece of England's countryside will be spoilt for choice when Greenslade Taylor Hunt's Langport Office offer three wetland nature reserves at their spring property auction being held at The Langport Arms Hotel, on April 18.
Coming under the hammer will be nearly 20 acres of species rich wetland habitat. Lots one and two are both on Chilton Moor and comprise 10.37 acres and 5.5 acres both accessed from Plain Heath Drove near Burtle.
Purchased in the 1980's by The Vincent Wildlife Trust primarily for the protection of otters and to enhance other aquatic wildlife they include interlocking water channels and islands with many native trees providing both water and woodland habitat.
Lot three comprises 3.43 acres on Westhay Moor, near Godney accessed from Oaks Drove.
This reserve comprises broadleaf woodland within a small grass field system which has not been grazed for some years and like Lots 1 and 2 has been managed with a non-intervention policy allowing them to develop into wet woodland habitat with some open scrub or grassland providing superb wildlife habitats.
All of the Lots are located within the Somerset Levels & Moors Environmentally Sensitive Area and the Somerset Levels Special Protection & Ramsar Site.
They are not included within any agri-environmental Scheme or Woodland Grant Scheme but given their exceptional wildlife interest grant funding may be available through the Environmental Stewardship Scheme.
Auctioneer Neil Biffen said the lots were "opportunities to purchase your own 'ready-made' nature reserve are rare and this sale presents wildlife enthusiasts with the opportunity to own their very own natural paradise to enjoy undisturbed by other people".
He added: "The purchasers will not need to watch Spring Watch or Autumn Watch on TV as they will have their own private viewing points!"
There is 18 acres of pasture land at Aller being offered in three Lots, a seven acre pasture field on Somerton Moor, an established cider apple Orchard of 8 acres at Stembridge and an interesting plot of amenity land adjacent to the Bridgwater & Taunton Canal at Lower Durston.
As a result of the redevelopment of the former BAe Woodford Site

More News for Beatles Fans
Last week I told you about John and Paul’s childhood homes being listed and given cultural status.
After much campaigning the Abbey Road zebra crossing has been given the same status.
‘And in the end...’: the Abbey Road zebra crossing is listed
The world-famous zebra crossing near the Abbey Road Studios in London has been listed Grade II by John Penrose, Minister for Tourism and Heritage.
Following expert advice from English Heritage, the crossing becomes the first of its kind ever to be listed, reflecting its cultural and historical importance.
John Penrose said: "It is a fantastic testimony to the international fame of The Beatles that – more than 40 years on - this crossing continues to attract thousands of visitors each year, trying to mimic their iconic Abbey Road album cover."
Paul McCartney added "It's been a great year for me and a great year for The Beatles and hearing that the Abbey Road crossing is to be preserved is the icing on the cake."
John Penrose continued "This London zebra crossing is no castle or cathedral but, thanks to the Beatles and a ten minute photo-shoot one August morning in 1969, it has just as strong a claim as any to be seen as part of our heritage. And as such it merits the extra protection that Grade II listing provides."

The Abbey Road Studios themselves were already listed.
Abbey Road Studios Celebrated With Grade II Listing For 'Outstanding Cultural Significance'
Iconic Studios Listed on Advice of English Heritage
English Heritage is delighted that the Abbey Road Studios been recognised by grade ll listing. In 2003, English Heritage advised ministers that the building possessed huge cultural importance and a remarkable and inspiring association with music making and should be listed in recognition of this unique special interest. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport has now endorsed that advice and listed the building several years on.
A spokesman from English Heritage said “Some of the most defining sounds of the 20th century were created within the walls of the Abbey Road Studios. English Heritage has long recognised the cultural importance of Abbey Road – it contains, quite simply, the most famous recording studios in the world which act as a modern day monument to the history of recorded sound and music. The listing of the building is a welcome acknowledgement of the contribution the studios have made to our musical heritage, and we hope that in some form, they can continue to play a role in inspiring the musicians of the future”.
Listing is a way of saying that a building is special and that every care should be afforded to decisions affecting its future. English Heritage warmly welcome EMI’s appreciation for the cultural value embodied in the building and their understanding that listing is an appropriate way to recognise that value.

This week we have another interesting batch of auctions for you some of which have thousands of items of interest. It’s worth noting that many of the sale rooms hold weekly or monthly auctions giving the buyer loads of choice.
They also offer on line bidding. Although on line bidding lacks the excitement of a live auction it gives the opportunity to bid from a distance. However, it must be noted that goods are often sold without any guarantees.
Remember that we cover auction houses and sale rooms all over the UK and Ireland. Sometimes even further afield.
Enjoy this beautiful weather and get out and about to grab your bargains.

I’m starting off this week with some news about two of the Beatles childhood homes which are to be given listed status and open to the public. The houses are where John and Paul wrote their early songs including Please, Please Me.
Mendips’ (pictured), the 1930s semi-detached home where John Lennon lived for 17 years, and the terraced house in Forthlin Road where Sir Paul McCartney lived for nine years have been listed on the advice of English Heritage.
Both properties are currently owned and managed as visitor attractions by the National Trust.
“These houses, unremarkable from the outside, have been painstakingly preserved and restored so that visitors today can get a real sense of how life must have been for the group as they were starting up,” Mr Penrose said. “They certainly merit the extra protection from demolition and development that listing provides and will, I hope, continue to be places of pilgrimage for Beatles fans young and old for many years to come.”
Emily Gee, head of designation at English Heritage, added: “We are delighted that the Minister has listed these two evocative houses where Lennon and McCartney developed their talents and created The Beatles. Listing celebrates special interest and in the case of Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road, they possess extraordinary historic and cultural interest.”
Applications to list the childhood homes of George Harrison and Ringo Starr were turned down as the houses had been altered and modernised and had little association with the group’s early development.

Hard Rock Cafe and Bonhams to host the Antiques Rockshow in Dublin
Friday 23rd March 2012 11am-3pm

Ever wondered what your treasured signed Beatles LP is worth? What about that original Rolling Stones tour poster you ripped off the wall in the 70's or that broken guitar Brian May gave to you?
Well, now's your chance to find out when the Antiques Rockshow comes to Dublin!
Brought to you by two giants of Rock 'n' Roll memorabilia, Hard Rock Cafe and Bonhams auction house, the Antiques Rockshow will take place at the Dublin cafe on Friday 23rd March.
Two Bonhams specialists in the world of memorabilia, Stephanie Connell and Stephen Maycock, will be present at Hard Rock Cafe (Fleet Street, Temple Bar, Dublin 1) between 11am and 3pm and will give a valuation to any genuine piece of music history (Maximum 3 items per person).
If you like the price and are wishing to sell, then you will be able to add your item to the Entertainment Memorabilia Auction taking place at the Bonhams auction house in Knightsbridge, London on 3rd July 2012.
Bonhams have previously sold some of the most important rock 'n' roll memorabilia to appear on the market, including the Eric Clapton guitar and amp collection in March 2011 for $2.1 million. Other past items include the original artwork for the Clash album London Calling (£72,000), Obi-Wan Kenobi's cape from Star Wars (£60,000), an autographed copy of the Beatles Sergeant Pepper album (£16,500) and a Beatles autographed Liverpool Airport sign (£19,800).
Stephanie Connell, Head of Entertainment Memorabilia at Bonhams is very excited about the Rockshow, "Hard Rock Cafe is an iconic institution in the world of Rock 'n' Roll and we hope to see some great items on the day."

This week we have some truly unmissable bargains for you. A house on-line auction starting at only £1.00!!! Also seized, liquidation & bankruptcy vehicles which are offered weekly so if you miss one there’s always another.
As it’s the first day of Spring I have found some camping and caravanning auctions to tempt your appetite.
We also have another weird memorabilia sale –this time a pair of earplugs. Churchill needed to have a power nap every day even through the thick of war and these were his way of blocking out noise.
Happy Hunting

Churchill Memorabilia
Just when you think there can't be anything else that's quite so unusual and then suddenly you get this pair of earplugs.
The ear defenders - made of purified beeswax, cotton and lanolin - come complete with the original casts of Churchill's ears, which they still fit snugly inside.
Later this month they will go under the hammer in Aylsham, Norfolk, where they have an asking price of £2,000.

The earplugs, which are said to be 'soft and rubbery' to the touch, are not the first piece of Churchill memorabilia to go under the hammer.
The auction house has sold several of his historical and unusual mementos.
In July 2010 a set of specially-made gold-plated dentures fetched a stunning £15,200.
And in January that year a half-smoked cigar, discarded by Churchill in 1941, sold for more than £4,000.
The auctioneer said: 'We've had all sorts of Churchill things like cigars and autographs and we've had his partial dentures.
Money raised from the sale of the earplugs on March 30 will be given to charity.

On Line House for £1.00!!!!!
A young couple with energy's dream

A HOUSE hunter could snap up a bargain after one of Britain’s cheapest houses went on sale in the region.
The two-bedroomed terraced house in Church Street, Ferryhill Station, County Durham, went up for auction at a starting price of just £1 earlier this month – although there is a £10,000 reserve.
Estate agents say it presents a golden opportunity for someone to climb onto the property ladder.
It may not be the prettiest property you’ll ever see but it has huge potential.
This is a genuine once in a lifetime offer and would be great for a young couple starting out in life who couldn’t afford to get on the housing ladder.
The company that owns and did let the end-terrace brick house decided to sell it because it is in need of full refurbishment.
It is currently boarded up and daubed with graffiti but most houses in the street are lived in.
If the house fails to sell it will be auctioned at County Durham, on Tuesday, March 27.

Yesterday’s Playthings Rocket
The dedication of collectable toy enthusiasts for building collections safe in the knowledge that their pursuit can double up as a recession-proof investment is ensuring business remains robust for UK toy auctioneers. Nothing has dented the market, even the recent recession. In fact the market for die-cast cars and model trains as auctioneers register rising selling prices amid increased demand.
Aston’s Auctioneers and Valuers, a specialist in toys, dolls and model railways based in the West Midlands, has seen the total of auction sales treble from about £350,000 in 2008 to just over £1m last year.
Vectis Auctions, a large specialist toy auctioneer, saw sales dip temporarily between 2009 and 2010 as people held back from selling their collections, but last year they were back to their pre-recession level of about £6m.
These numbers reflect more items being sold at higher prices as the commitment of dedicated collectors – some of whom will spend decades amassing a collection – supports increases in value with enthusiasts chasing fewer items. However, auctioneers say that while collections have often been regarded as an alternative investment the less attractive returns of savings products and property since the downturn are an added encouragement to spend cash on collectables.
“Interest rates are low so they are better off doing that than putting money in the bank,” explains Chris Aston, a director at Aston’s. “They collect anyway but the fact that the value is increasing is a double bonus.” Among the most coveted items are Matchbox Superfast die-cast vehicles from the 1970s. While these vary in price from £5 up to around £5,000, each model has typically doubled in value since 2008.
“Once people get to 40 or 50 years old they have a bit more money in their pocket and want to buy things that hark back to their childhood,” says Guy Charrison, chairman of the National Association of Valuers and Auctioneers. Some suggest investing in a physical item also has more resonance with a collector than money stored in a financial product. “People are buying tangible items,” says Nick Letherbarrow, a consultant at Vectis. “Money in banks and pensions – they are less easy to understand.”
Others in turn are choosing to sell valuable collections to profit from higher prices. A recent auction handled by Vectis raised £300,000 for a collection of Dinky toys, which translated into a retirement nest egg for its former owner.
However, healthy demand does not mean those collecting with an eye on future profit are guaranteed a return. “If you buy the best, like a prewar Dinky toy, then prices are continuing to rise,” says Mr Aston. However, he cautions you cannot assume a particular brand name will be enough to ensure an item has cachet.
Owning an item with a rarity value can certainly pay dividends. There is an example of an early 20th century model tram made by Märklin, which failed to make its reserve price of £8,000 a decade ago. It sold for double that last year.
Toy Auctioneer Aston’s Recent Results.

Worlds Most Expensive Toy
The Charles, an antique painted tin and iron toy fireman's hose reel, is now the most expensive toy ever sold at auction. The record $230,100 was paid at Christie's in New York City on Dec. 16.
Old time favourites are now precious antiques. The toys of our grandparents that we keep up in the attic inside wooden boxes can hide a treasure in disguise.
What makes these toys so valuable? The answer can be found in the date they were created, in the unique fabric they are made of and especially how limited they are as supply.
So, get hunting you never know what you may find.
There are many exciting and interesting toys about and some lucky collectors have amassed a fortune.

This week we have the usual liquidation sales but I have included some property auctions to give you some idea what is about. A Liverpool auctioneer has houses for auction starting at £10,000.00 and land without any reserve.
Spring is the time to look into the property market . Good hunting

Football Memorabilia
I’ve noticed lately there are a lot of auctions offering memorabilia attached to football. These vary from clothing, programmes, medals to trophies and attract a lot of interest not to mention high bidding prices.
Look at these recent events.......
George Best 1968 European Cup Winner's Medal Fetches £156,000 at Bonhams
The 1968 European Cup winner's medal awarded to the legendary Northern Irish football player, George Best (1946-2005), sold for a staggering £156,000 at Bonhams, Chester, as part of the Sporting Memorabilia sale. The medal, which had attracted a pre-sale estimate of £90,000 – 120,000, was presented following Manchester United's 4-1 victory over Benfica, Portugal, when Manchester United became the first English team to win the European Cup.
The medal was among 13 awards presented to George Best during his illustrious football career put up for auction at Bonhams by the Executors of Best's estate. The proceeds from the sale of the items, which totalled an impressive £200,000, will go to Best's sister, Barbara McNarry.
The sale also featured the shirt worn by legendary Brazilian footballer Pelé in his final international appearance for Brazil versus Yugoslavia on 18 July 1971, which made £8,640; and a collection of Muhammad Ali memorabilia, hand-signed and donated by the celebrated former boxer to Parkinson's UK, which raised over £3,000 for the Parkinson's disease charity.
£60k for ex-Arsenal and Wales footballer Charlie Jones memorabilia
Football memorabilia from 80 years ago which belonged to Wales captain and Arsenal star Charlie Jones has sold at auction for £60,189.
The auction in Chester included shirts, medals and Wales caps.
The same sale also saw the Football Association of Wales buy a shirt once worn by late Wales manager Gary Speed.
Five items once owned by Wales World Cup squad player Derrick Sullivan also made £3,712.
His lots included three caps, a World Cup Sweden glass vase and identity card and a Welsh Cup Winners (runners-up) trophy.
The most expensive item sold on was a 1933-34 Arsenal Division One champions medal, which sold for £11,875
A similar medal for the previous season made £8,750 and another, for the 1930-31 season, fetched £10,000.
A 1932 Arsenal FA Cup runners-up medal, expected to fetch up to £2,500, was bought for £4,000.
Rare valuable items like 1930s medals could prove attractive to Arsenal fans
A 1932 Arsenal FA Cup shirt sold for £3,500.
Among the other Wales-related lots were various international caps and shirts.
A bundle of programmes for £1,500, which included two 1926 programmes for Wales matches against England and Scotland during Jones's era.
Tommy Smith: Liverpool legend's medals fetch £137,000
Medals and shirts won by former Liverpool defender Tommy Smith have raised £137,000 at auction for his old age.
Smith, 66, sold the prized collection of 75 lots, which included league title, FA Cup, UEFA Cup and European Cup winners' medals.
There was also a full England cap and 20 shirts worn during big games.
His collection went under the hammer at Bonham's Chester showroom.
Smith said his family were more important than his memorabilia
Among the shirts up for grabs was the one he wore when he scored a rare headed goal against Borussia Mönchengladbach in the club's 3-1 European Cup victory in Rome in 1977.
